The Treasury Gardens consist of 5.8 hectares (14.4 acres) on the southeast side of the central district Business Melbourne, East Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The gardens are home to a pond and a number of monuments:
Sir John William Clark Memorial. marble bust, around 1902, near the Treasury building. Erected by public subscription and unveiled by the Governor of Victoria, July 22, 1902.
Robert Burns Memorial. bronze sculpture by GA Lawson replica of an original built in the poet's hometown of Alloway, Scotland. On behalf of the Caledonian Society of Melbourne and first to be erected in St Kilda Road in 1904 and moved to the gardens of the Treasury in 1970 because of roadworks.
President John F. Kennedy Memorial. Bronze bas-relief the sculptor Raymond B. Ewers. Built in 1965 and located by the pool and specially designed for water source.
History
1850 – The garden area has left as open space after the failure to sell allowances because of the swampy ground.
1867 – Clement Hodgkinson, designed the garden as a diagonal cross model trees. The willows are planted around an ornamental pond.
1902 – William Guillen, Director of Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne transforms ornamental pond at the Japanese Garden. This garden is destroyed after the Second World War.
1929 – management of the gardens has been transferred to the city Melbourne
1934 – Treasury Gardens are used by the community of Victoria to celebrate the centenary
1939 – block of toilets built for the Spring Carnival and festival of flowers. Recognized as important for its architectural design unusual art deco style, the decorative use of brick construction and tile and iron retail shaped extension of the model, including doors, gates, lights, signs and brick planter with exceptional craftsmanship.
1965 – Monument was erected to the President John F. Kennedy American
