The comedian says it is playing in a war zone

Comedian Don Barnhart said that you need to laugh soldiers in a dangerous environment, like a war zone.

My name is Don Barnhart and I am a professional comedian stand. What I mean by "professional"? Well, what I'm saying is that I had the opportunity to make a comfortable living traveling the world making people laugh, people who should answer the question of monitoring, yes, I'm really very funny. I was on a TV and a few appeared in several movies. If you're a fan of comedy hard, you may recognize me as I shot more 250 days a year, but I'm not up in the celebrity status the likes of Jim Carrey, Robin Williams or Jerry Seinfeld, but I'm right behind them.

Since 1992, also tried to spend several weeks a year to entertain the troops stationed abroad. I peacetime and wartime and wherever you go people asked how it feels to play in dangerous conditions, such as Afghanistan or Iraq so here's my story.

First, consider it is an honor and a privilege to be invited to come and entertain the troops. As I said before, I am very fortunate to be able to make a living doing what I like and I think we all have obligation as an American citizen to support our troops as best we know, even if they oppose the war itself.

The reason why I started doing "my part" is that part of my work release program and I'm only 30 hours community service then I'm done! (Just kidding, it was a joke.) Seriously, men and women in the military defense of America and all its freedoms and I am able to make good use of these freedoms. Also I think it's important to support the troops so I know how. If I knew how to make cookies, I would do that and send a care package, but I'm I better tell jokes and entertain there, shake hands and thank the men and women who serve our country. It is both physically and emotionally difficult, but is this immense sense of pride I feel when I'm doing my part and be part of the team. But honestly, I feel a bit like I am the least important person there. I feel a little as the waterboy Super Bowl team.

The only reason I started doing military surveillance was in mid-1992. I went through a bitter divorce after I discovered that my wife was "going out again. (A joke, but really is not a joke), I took off to Europe for me (in fact, to get as far as possible from all who knew or who knew me and my "situation"). Anyway, while I was doing shows all over Sweden, I found myself cold smoke, dark and gloomy full of coffee to feel sorry for me and I looked out the window and I noticed a sign of the USO. I finished my cappuccino and plowing snow lined the street and went in to ask if they are interested in a comedy as I had a lot of free time and nothing to do, he gave me information I sent my main demo and the next thing I know, I'm on a plane of the civil war in Bosnia with the Gin Blossoms and cheerleaders 49.

Each show is different and it really depends on what reservations for shows and more with celebrities and groups that take a long time. For them, it is much more high production and logistics are a nightmare, as the sound equipment, personnel, clothing, equipment and who knows what else. For celebrities, the visit never came because I wanted a hotel four stars limo for her concert in Afghanistan. She did not understand. We are here on a military base in the middle of a war and not on the beach on the French Riviera. All However, he went into rehab the next month, she never did the trick.

Comics and services group, specializing in comedy only much easier and can be ready to go to the drop of a hat, but on average a few months the change is the best. With humor, it is much easier to change places, and adds entertainment to adapt to changing conditions on the ground. When it's just actors, we are trying to add shows whenever he can on the tour and try to get the troops he is in fact most of the programs. We added in a shed with no engine sound, the flight deck, platforms, through a field of landmines. Anything not glamorous.

Stage for the troops is different than playing in a regular comedy club in the States and once we have made some visits, which are linked to the soldiers and really is a sense of camaraderie and understanding. Behind the guard is a finding that, every second, we could having to fight and be caught in a crossfire. You may have to run for protection or to return. So even if I'm in the middle of a joke, my senses are Max alert. Once when I was in the middle of the show, I heard a huge explosion in the suburbs and I gave up ground cover and the crowd roared with laughter, as "normal" home. I just wet my pants, but now part of team. I'm here to laugh if it's something to say or what I am here to entertain. I do not move much, but I'm still fully aware of all external sounds around me when I play there.

The reason that comes is to entertain and show our support and to let them know how much I care about them and the work they do … how much you respect and I think they have a certain respect we there. We're all in this together as we eat the same food and have to deal with the same amenities. If no hot water, then there is no hot water for everyone and sometimes is MRE (meals ready to eat) for weeks at a time.

The troops are so welcoming to us and his way of making us feel at home. We doing shows in the Persian Gulf and get the ship by helicopter to the ship and really bad storm came and they would cancel a show, because if we fly, we would to spend the night on the boat, but there was no place for us to create and boys in the boat is offered to give us beds and sleep on the floor only to have their vessels do miss entertainment.

The real difference between so-called "normal" and the conduct of the hearing for the troops, is that for the moment troops are the best audience ever. There really is no comparison. These men and women risk their lives on the line every day and have no time to laugh if not fun. They are honest in their likes and dislikes and comics makes you stronger. In America, people can go to a dinner and a drink and if you do not like the show, you can always go out and do something else. When you are to entertain the troops, the show may be the only change they receive per month at a time that you must bring your game "A" and above it. That is why it is so important to bring you the best headlining comedian and not a bunch of amateurs here. To give the troops of an inferior product that really boil my blood. There are several organizations that are available programs humor, then pocketed 'money by sending professional and amateur really shows here. That's why I started my own booking shows and touring. The comic I use all headlining comics are seen in comedy clubs in the country and on television. You will not see a mic night open. You must be a headlining well here you might have to get your act on the logic and sensibilities of what is happening that day … or may have to follow a celebrity acts Kid Rock and Tim Allen. After many visits, I also created and presented a television program called, The Freedom of Expression comedy series, with all the great actors who have more military surveillance is ironic. when you say that freedom of expression while automatically think it is a dirty show. Freedom of speech is also freedom of thought and concept of the show is that the comic coward to do what they want. Some might be a little dirty, some policies, but the goal is to be fun. program website is www.thechucklehut.com

At first, I really not reflect the direct and positive impact the troops morale. It's the greatest feeling after a show that everyone came to thank us for the fun. We are here to make our shows to show our appreciation to them! At the end of a show, Colonel met all the comics on stage to present us a certificate of recognition and its parts and all the men and women stood up and bowed in gratitude. She literally put the four comics until tears. We could not believe how grateful these young men and women have been coming to us while we were there to show our appreciation to them. So continue to make these visits, over and over again.

Comedy is a topic of conversation, laughter breaks the routine and monotony is truly the best remedy. Remember that some of these men and women here are not been home long and we're the closest thing to being at home we have to leave. I sincerely believe that these Men and women are my family and my job is to make people laugh and forget their problems, sorrows and difficulties for a while. I saw the soldier laughing harder to find so strong that I had tears running down her cheeks, and after the show, everyone said that Guy never smile. Came after the show and gave me a bear hug that nearly broke my rib cage, but it was great to see her laugh.

Let's be realistic. It is not always easy being away from his family and your friends in a war zone. We all know the dangers and opportunities. It's kind of an unspoken truth, but also creates and underlying tensions, and some people are struggling to get ahead. On a recent visit, we had a chaplain traveling with us and he was sitting in a row before each performance. It was a bit confusing at first but Then I explained that if the soldiers could see the laughter of some material doubt that maybe it was accessible to their needs and problems and it was just a normal guy. It was great, because they were included in the program and said, teasing him a bit, but around the world raising awareness of the face. In fact, several days after my return I have received a letter from him telling us and what difference is there really an open dialogue of communication for him and some soldiers. We all part of the team.

You might think it's difficult to get the laughter of the soldiers facing war, destruction and horrible conditions, but it is not. While you are fun! Comedy has always been a pressure relief valve and allow the tension before addition. The most uncomfortable the situation, the growing tension more need to release tension before something breaks. All been in these situations really high pressure. Although a child when his parents told him to go to bed and be quiet or you'll be in trouble and can not contain his laughter. Or the day of your marriage when you're about to give their votes, then start crackin 'up. My wife and I both laughed, but it also brought us closer. As to entertain the troops, no room for mediocre comics that point. This situation tense and saw the cartoon very bad to lose the crowd. Therefore, you should be picky when you put a show together. She growls at us and so the troops can not have a vision of the artist within Dona crying because they could not get his eight hours of sleep and noon lunch.

Be fun in an environment that represents the ravages of destruction may be a little intimidating at first. He intended to use depends on the first time I came. Seriously, it's too early knock, and worrying but the soldiers are so far from his best to make you feel at home and after a short period of time, it's time to Step Up. " If you can not be here and live in these harsh conditions, then I can too Although not for everyone. It takes a strong person to be here as a soldier and a comedian. There are a lot of pressure but that's why it's so important to be the best at what you do. It is very nerve racking to hear explosions from when trying to deliver the closing or the hunting of whales and mermaids aircraft taking off, but what kind of getting used to. He said returning to the States and the hearing officer of a large lot easier. The final hearing having said that I felt so relaxed and different from all other actors. I told them I just returned from Afghanistan, where the mortars were going and there was an attack the missile in the middle of my program … rather, they are not shooting at me for my act. (Laughter)

For most, there is really no way to investigate specific aspects related to the sample. "Field" is a kind of litmus test and is difficult to explain to a new comic, since only have to do to understand. You just dive into it and understand it. The variables are constantly evolving and the only thing you can tell something is changing constantly, so we really need to be able to roll with it. Sometimes there is no gear noise or lights, sometimes the audience is standing in the heat of 120 degrees with the sun in their eyes and can not even see, sometimes you wear a headset flac jacket and sometimes a show in a tent for 6 children who believe I have not seen a shower or a razor or fresh meat in the months … It is truly a unique experience that you have to see for yourself. Every turn I ever made something memorable. Even comics who have traveled in abroad are linked. Oh, you're in Afghanistan or Iraq, UAE, Dubai and Saudi Arabia? There is a certain respect we each other to make these visits. At the end of the day, we are just a bunch of silly to have the sort of jokes remain, but there is respect between those who choose to make these concerts.

It is important to be able to change on the fly and adjust the instrument to adapt to their environment. The military are not allowed to discuss certain important issues and how far you can take a joke. We did shows all over the world and every place is different. Ironically, this is America based on freedom, but freedom comes with an enormous amount of responsibility. You can talk all you want, but if you cross the Online, is likely to lose the crowd to know best what you do. In this spirit, we must take into account the fact that we are encouraged in many countries are very different from what we're used to and is important to remember that as a guest, we must respect cultural differences and traditions of our host country.

It is also important to be aware of this conflict are taking place in the soldier's life as well. Almost all topics are open, but with some tragic, some time must pass to be able "find the funny" in something. If something has happened, probably not wise to try to joke about for some time has passed. It might be too oil. We often receive local dignitaries coming to the show to see what comedy really is. I think it's great because many people are not entitled to speak and criticize their own government, when in America we can speak of our political leaders and make fun of them. However, if this is not fun, Oops! The crowd turned against him. My rule is, as a guest, not someone going to start breaking dishes and kicks and their pets is the same with comedy. Know your people and be friendly, while pushing the limits.

Most of my songs are my diary and I bring a lot of concerts of my military experiences in the show, because there is a common bond. You I've read in the crowd. Are they young or old, are dignitaries or more and has to call his watch as is the case. I constantly on the issue of my head. Did this joke? If this were the case, I will go to small or if I will not put in place. This is a fan problems as he or she is only a small amount of material and they will if people like it or not. Therefore it is very important to get rid of these small agencies that send what I call comedy rejected here. Get a contract and pay a lame ass comic who can not find work in the States a little money and the agent pockets the rest. It's fun and really benefits your blood boil.

My team is out of my life so it is not unusual for my field experience to become a regular part of my show. The fans really want to know what happens outside of what they see on the news. People come after each concert and want to know all about my journey. They wonder how the troops are and what they did there? They are very concerned and interested in the way our soldiers are doing. I feel a bit like the medium of exchange jokes back and forth.

The logistics of actually ranges from the simple abroad to the complex.

For most circuits, fly leg trip main shopping, then it is time to "soldier up." During travel, commercial flight had problems and was diverted to Russia, but we could not leave the airport for nearly 24 hours until another plane was ready. We all feel like Tom Hanks in the film which is stuck at the airport. Once they are "in the country, we are fairly well reflected in the army and learn to roll as soldiers, but if there is urgency, and all personnel and equipment were diverted and we sat on the sidelines until everything is safe. Receive safety information, which is much a handshake and a bottle of water. They want to be as prepared as they are in the case of an emergency situation and depending on where the charge amount varies. Let's say we're trained and ready for battle if needed. I never felt safer when I'm with the troops. We have done many strange places. We made a show in front of a minefield, the palace of Saddam Hussein, and a theater in Greece, on a plateau in the mud and rain. The best thing about comedy is you can go almost anywhere Unlike tape or other group in need of instruments, the speed of sound, lights and more to some people to remove. I was in a tower that was in solitary isolation so that the band could not perform with all their lights and sound if we had a sample of the wealth in the dark jokes to tell the soldiers. With comedy, you can adapted to almost any situation. We need a sound check, just turn the microphone and let go, and if we do not have a microphone, and then make the projects first and the back of the room.

As for the disadvantages of the war, I did not want this for sure, but not nearly as much as men and women who serve our country. This is not something I or most of the soldiers care to discuss or share. If you've been there, you know and if not, then probably not the best way to ask someone what they saw. War is hell and details may lead to discontinuation. It's hard enough to return home without reliving horrors. There is a sense of what should and should not do or talk We're all on the same team so it is important to know your limits. Obviously not pull a "Herald" to go to new, draw a card and say, "Look everybody, I'm here and not go to the wicked."

In this spirit, the first Once he went abroad went to Bosnia during very difficult politically. Snipers were on alert 24 / 7. Like Hilary, but without advertising. He showed me a very good side and bad to make these visits and confirmed the importance of these programs are men and women who serve our country. When you're under fire mundane boredom of everyday life is not really important, like you really live and at the moment. That's why the troops actually expelled from the comedies. Not many laughs and fun in their lives during active war to appreciate what little they have.

Since then, I tried to make several trips each year. Some years I've been seven or eight rounds and each is usually two to three weeks at a time. A recent tour .. Was 30 days in Afghanistan Sounds like the title of a film or really bad nightmare because of the war in recent years have been directed mainly to Southeast Asia: Afghanistan, Arabia, Egypt, Israel, Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia Bahrain, UAE, Jordan, but also throughout Europe, Japan, Iceland, Greenland, Korea, Micronesia … In short, if U.S. troops I've been there somewhere. At first my wife was not always happy that I go to a war zone to tell jokes, but she understands and supports me when I go and want to do their part as well. We have several tours, meanwhile, returns all year and go with me. She recently starred in the thriller "China Dolls who wrote and directed and she (Linda Vu) goes off and the show's host and logged autographs afterwards. My website has my schedule today and always try to do a blog, upload photos of my visits to maintain. www.donbarnhart.com

Both my brother and brother and my father had served in the reserve, I feel like the military is a great Part of my family. When I do a meet and greet after the show, I always try to find what the soldiers want to talk about this and their minds. From Occasionally you meet someone who really needs a friend. Sometimes you have to talk and sometimes just want to be entertained or remember the house.

People always ask me to describe my act or tell a joke. My act is a story driven by the perforated lines. As before traveling abroad, had to receive the vaccine and was given an injection of anthrax. Now I can eat without worry at any Taco Bell for the next twenty years … I grew up in Los Angeles and had enough people with the false and pretentious attitude if I moved to Las Vegas. We were poor growing up and I'm finally happy that my mother was sixty-five, because she was using a fake ID to get discounts retiree per year.

One of the greatest feelings is to feedback from the soldiers. It's good for taking pictures and shaking hands after doing shows. And now, with the Internet, Facebook and MySpace, many soldiers I meet, send me pictures and emails to keep in touch. I made friends with so many great with the soldiers and even toured the States and what is good when a guy or girl who comes out and says he saw me out. That means they have at home and brings a smile to my face.

Not really spend much time thinking about security problems or threats. We receive well-informed and I think we are ready for all that. Treatment to stay focused to give the best show I can, whatever the conditions. Remember, we go home in a week or two, then no matter what difficult for us, as artists, the troops even more difficult and we are here for them. There is a big word, if you're looking at the obstacles, focus on your goal. The soldiers to be safe for us to our work.

He never had painful experiences, near-misses at least get shot and the presence of missiles flying around you, it's scary. I some horror stories, but it is something that chose to focus on. I try to find the fun in it if I can, is part of being a comic. It was on this occasion as well. I think My worst experience of entertainment while abroad was eating a fruit not washed in Turkey. We had just started the tour and I could not support more than few minutes without having to run the bathroom, but as they say, the show must go on. We had three comics on this tour and I told them just be ready, as I would like long time I could run off stage and throw my own weapon of mass destruction. There was a cloud follows me everywhere fault. I felt like comics PEG pen Peanuts. Anyway, after some of my races, the audience really got into it and became part of the show. They were actually now how long I could stand before the sprint to the bathroom again. Let me tell you, I am a very physical comedian, with many movements and facial expressions body, and not easy trying to be funny and tightening the buttocks.

Once we have on the site, we try to work and be as fit as possible as these trips are really stressful. We could travel 24 hours, then do a show right away and do our best to be out in a non- permits. In general, do what the troops. If they have volleyball, so we're here to sweat at night or if the movie is when a chill out room with them.

Each visit is different. If it is a broader base, which could be there for several days and then branch out from there to do shows by satellite bases in size or just pop in another place. Everything is based on what is happening that day and if there is a fighting force or the threat to security. That is what is good in the production a comedy show that we can go to another base, then the circle later with some established unlike the time a band or a great show to production.

So my race itself. I grew up the son of television director Don Lewis Barnhart who led Mork & Mindy and Saved by the bell. Games drag on in Los Angeles, I had the desire to make comedy for the gallows and the promotion of Robin Williams and Jonathan Winters. Then got a job at the prestigious Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, CA, where he became the house emcee talent coordinator, and eating at the age of 20 years and got to work with and opening Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Tim Allen, Robin Williams, David Spade, Jim Carrey, George Lopez, Harry Anderson and many other high comedy superstars today.

Ironically, the comedy was not my first choice. When I was 18 years, I lived in Hermosa Beach, CA surf much not much point in my life and joined with the service and the recruiting office was closed. It was Memorial Day and took a Spicolli Jeff. Anyway, on the way back, I saw a job Sign a comedy club and went and hired me as a goalkeeper. I was working one night a week, so it would help, Bussing tables, video recording events and be there all the time so I can watch again and then a big night, the master of ceremonies was sick and I'm continued afterwards, when I started doing comedy full time I promised myself that if I ever made a living doing stand up, I would do anything to support our troops. If not for the comedy, I scrub the deck of an aircraft carrier or something.

With the encouragement of other comics, I left the security of the club to pursue his dream and I have not looked back and said that more than 250 days a year take on the road. Just wanted named Best Comedian in Las Vegas and I am the creator and host of the Freedom of expression Comedy Show. I am the writer, director and star of the independent film, China Dolls and has just finished writing and will play in comedy, the Freeloader. In 2007, I was the winner the short duration Comedy American Idol and I had the opportunity to appear all the great NBC comedy for Comedy Central and MTV and I'm regularly on the Bob and Show Tom, XM and Sirius Satellite Radio.

My wife and I are Don Barnhart Entertainment TV specializes in independent film / and we have one of the options available agencies to comedy shows for the military, colleges and corporate events and I am consulting the top comedy clubs across the country.
