Pet Products Market Research

pet products market research
Why is it that companies are allowed to market harmful products toward hamsters?

I don’t know about other small animals, I’ve only kept hamsters. For example pine or cedar bedding has pictures of hamsters on it.

Another example, I stupidly bought my hamster a wheel with rungs. I remember playing with him and then seeing his foot all gashed open. I did some research and discovered that the wheels do that all the time, even breaking hamster feet.

It’s just so dishonest. And the pet stores that recommend and sell these products. I just can’t imagine a pet store doing this for cats or dogs and I can’t imagine what the difference is.
Just realized how much of a rant that all was. Sorry about that.

I work in a pet shop and we don’t sell wheels with gaps in for that reason, though I’m not sure what wood our sawdust/woodshavings is from, if I’m honest. However, we keep all our animals- aside from rats, degus, and chinchillas who need Biocat litter- on this woodshaving/sawdust and we’ve never had a problem; I also keep my own gerbils on the same woodshavings and they’re healthy, and none of our customers have ever complained of a resp. infection whilst using our brand of sawdust/woodshavings.

We also sell exercise balls which the company- not the pet shop, but the company who makes the balls- advertises for guinea pigs and chinchillas, when neither of them should go in exercise balls due to fragile spines.

However, we also sell a lot of things for cats and dogs which I think are overall stupid and could be damaging to a pet, physically or mentally, such as sparkly harnsesses from a cat that may break if the cat suddenly decides to pull, and very unhealthy dog foods that are akin to us eating McDonalds everyday, that only keep the dog eating with food additives.

It all comes down to YOU thinking. I mean, seriously. You look at the wheels, you should be able to work out that’s not going to be good for their feet, just like a dog owner looking at the ingredients of food should be able to read that 4% ‘poulty deveratives’ plus filler probably isn’t that great.
