Review of Aquarium (and Pond) Power Head Pumps
Do not look at about.com (mentioned this in a previous post on fish as pets) but after an electronic format in an aquarium power heads of fans / pumps I investigate what is said in reviews and stumbled upon an article with comments from five different power heads.
Either they are from another planet or I'm living in a parallel universe!
First not to list two the head of the best aquarium and pond power / water pumps, and their comments were very different from my experience with these pumps in the letter if not 100s of thousands of tanks in the past years in my aquarium maintenance business.
Here are six Pumps review (including replicas of the comments):
* New generation of tank King and pond water pumps "> Resun, this pump (power head) remained flat on your list, but not so well known in the U.S. and Canada are very popular in Asia and Australia. Resun has dimensions such as No. 6, which are capable of very "mud" pond environments without however, work very well. Stainless steel wheels and ceramic coated trees found on larger models) are extremely durable and almost never fail.
These pumps are very reliable and starts without problems, also have the pressure of the head very good (in fact one of the best)! Resun pumps can be submerged or save online.
Models 3A, 5 and 6 are impressive for demanding applications, such as ponds or large tanks where the flow and head pressure are necessary (And the ability to handle large amounts of particles in the water).
About the only thing is that, with its robust construction, these pumps can be a little more noisier than others (although still not bad here either.) Resun power heads are not as adjustable speed as other power head, but a small drawback IMO.
* Water Pumps "target =" _blank "> Via Aqua, which is a real glutton for line of pumps that are widely used in the maintenance of the community aquarium professionals have not even mentioned by about.com (go figure!). The pumps in line powerhead (no baseline) were also trees and heavy-duty ceramic construction. Via Aqua pumps (with Resun) can be used in sump or as a head of power and pressure have an excellent head. Through the line of Aqua power head (such as VA 1300) can be submerged or used online that adds to the versatility of all pumps can match. Aquarium of sinks (most often in marine applications) Via Aqua 2600 and 3300 are unprecedented in the utility.
However, Once the downside is that these pumps are a bit noisy, but only when used online (that are a bit quieter than when submerged line Resun). heads through Aqua Power (as Resun and Rio) are not adjustable flow that some other heads of power, but a minor inconvenience IMO. This disadvantage is more than offset by the versatility! I will also admit a couple of models I do not recommend the Via Aqua due to the shorter duration is desirable and what are the 2300 and 4900.
* Rio (Taam by), if a pump is not preferred by me as the person who founded Rio Via Aqua started and improved some of their problems. These pumps have always been excellent and IMO, although partly agree with your assessment about.com, I think they go too far with his comments on the costs of maintenance. heads Rio energy are very strong pressure of the head considerably (depending on model).
The disadvantages are the wheel (although very durable), seem to have problems environments (especially dirty aquariums or ponds) has a lot of debris and organic matter in the water column. However, they are always very good at implementation when used as the waves and politicians are well maintained. These pumps are not in the adjustable rate
* Maxi Jet Power Head, I'll have Most agree with his assessment of these pumps about.com. They are reliable and economical and start again with ease, even when used as responsible for the wave. However, they have their drawbacks, and have the head pressure and poor are not very flexible (unlike Through Aqua pimps, Resun, and Rio) since it is the only engine head and nothing else.
* Penguin powerheads generally disagree with the assessment made by about.com of these heads. Despite that have a characteristic of the reverse flow power head for UG filters (which are not very frequent, but more), another interesting feature is the flow control function.
However, these features are nice these heads have a poor record of reliability, which are very poor discharge pressure, and not to start shortly after the pumps were in operation for some time (in applications such as those responsible for wavelength).
* Hagen Aqua clear power heads, this pump is also rated by about.com more on my experience with them. I used several heads of Aqua clear power than any other (including Aqua pumps through me now generally recommended.) When these first bosses is out, were leaders of the industry in design, but they are IMO in 1980 and technology but better than the penguins of reliability and the pressure in the head, which still does not stop and restart in many of my applications where power is interrupted even briefly, making a poor choice for wave applications. Aqua clear power heads not handle high loads of organic wastes and well and needs more Rivers said maintenance about.com necessary!
Ultimately bosses with Aqua Clear Power is that they are reasonable "retro" bombs, but certainly not the latest technology!
* Power zoom scan, even if I sold these in my business, which is rarely recommended. They are essentially a gadget head with supply pressure and low pressure and low production. They are not real and lasting the sweep output function address is managed by cheap plastic gears that often fail. These pumps do not handle heavy loads well and use bio best small aquariums or terrariums best when there is not much that asked.

I also had people ask me why many brands such as Via Aqua Hagen are not generally available and does that make them less quality that no one really wants?
The answer is quite simple, Hagen is sold through an extensive distribution network primarily from the pet store (though that are transitioning to their own house distribution). This system promotes an "all or nothing to market their products, basically, what it means to carry all online discounts (Good and bad) or not even sell anything. This marketing system was a great success (no mention of polished container), but this does not mean a better product.
Through Aqua (among many other leading brands) are not sold through traditional marketing methods and distribution systems, but sells many high-end importers of marine fish and other devices without all the expensive marketing. This, in certain parts of their products in the hands of professionals maintenance of the aquarium does not care about clever advertising or fashion is rather whether it works or not and that is why Via Aqua and many others like luxury choose to sell that way.
